Running in San Gabriel Valley
The spine of SGV running is the San Gabriel River Trail — 28 paved, car-free miles running from the mountains to the sea, with trailheads in Azusa and Baldwin Park that make perfect long-run staging points. Along the foothills, Azusa's Rosedale Great Park and the Garcia Trail deliver real elevation, while Glendora's Colby Trail and the Glendora Ridge climbs are local rites of passage. Track culture is strong here: Citrus College and Azusa Pacific host weekly speed nights that draw runners from across the valley. Baldwin Park's Morgan Park anchors community group runs in the central SGV. Mornings are cooler than the LA basin in winter, but summer heat builds fast — most crews meet early or after dark. Route 66 runs straight through the valley, and more than a few clubs finish their miles at the diners and donut shops along it.
