Running Clubs in Echo Park
Los Angeles, CA
Echo Park blends flat lakeside loops with some of the steepest residential hills on the Eastside, giving runners a choose-your-own-adventure setup within a tight radius. The lake loop is quick and scenic, while nearby Elysian Park offers miles of trails with sweeping views of downtown.
Echo Park Lake provides a pleasant 0.8-mile paved loop around the water, bordered by lotus beds and the downtown skyline. It is flat, well-lit, and popular for warm-ups or easy recovery jogs. For serious elevation, the streets climbing north of Sunset Blvd toward Elysian Heights deliver quad-burning hill repeats with views from the Hollywood Sign to the ocean on clear days. Elysian Park, just northeast of the lake, has over 600 acres of trails and fire roads — it is one of the oldest parks in LA and far less crowded than Griffith Park. The main loop through Elysian Park is roughly 2.5 miles and passes the Dodger Stadium parking lots, which are open for running on non-game days. Running clubs in Echo Park typically stage from the lake's boathouse area or from the park entrance off Stadium Way. Post-run, Sunset Blvd between Echo Park and Silver Lake has no shortage of coffee shops.
