South Bay Run Clubs: Manhattan Beach to Long Beach
27 clubs · 5 neighborhoods · 52 weekly runs ·
From the Manhattan Beach pier down the Strand to Hermosa, then along the Long Beach shoreline and inland to Whittier, the south end of LA County runs flat, early and social. Pier to pier is the classic route; a taco stop or a brewery is the classic finish.
The Strand links Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach into one running community, with Hill Street repeats for the ambitious and Polliwog Park loops for easy days. Long Beach adds a 3.5-mile shoreline path from Shoreline Village to Belmont Shore, El Dorado Park for grass and shade, and Bixby Knolls for post-run pizza. East of the 710, the Whittier, La Mirada and Cerritos crews use the Whittier Greenway Trail and college tracks, and the San Gabriel River Trail ties the whole region together: a car-free line from the foothills to Seal Beach that hosts most of the area's long runs. The terrain is almost entirely flat, so this is the easiest corner of LA to start running with a group.
