Running in Whittier & Southeast

The Whittier Greenway Trail is the anchor route: a 4.5-mile paved rail-trail cutting through the heart of the city, flat and lit for early morning or evening miles. Palm Park sits right on the trail and serves as the main staging point for Whittier's group runs. South in La Mirada, Liberty Plaza and the La Mirada Creek Park paths host track nights and tempo sessions, while the Cypress and Cerritos crews stage from Cypress College's track and the coffee shops along South Street. The San Gabriel River Trail passes just west of the area, offering a car-free corridor that runs all the way to the beach at Seal Beach — the classic long-run route here. The terrain is almost entirely flat, making the Southeast one of the most beginner-friendly corners of LA County to start running with a group.
