The short version
- You can browse every club without an account, and we set no analytics or advertising cookies.
- We do not use Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, or any other ad-tech tracker.
- We never sell your personal information and never share it for targeted advertising.
- If you create an account or submit a club, we keep only what is needed to run the directory.
- You can ask us to show, correct, or delete your data at any time through the contact form.
1. Who we are
LA Running Clubs (“we,” “us”) operates the free directory at larunningclubs.com (the “Site”) from Los Angeles, California. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Site and to every form and feature on it.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Browsing without an account
We run our own simple visit statistics so we know which clubs and pages help people find a run. For each page you view we record the page address and type, the time, how long the page was open, your screen width, and the website you came from (only its domain, such as google.com). We also record when you tap a link out to a club’s Instagram, website, WhatsApp or directions, and when you use Add to calendar, Share, Save, or the runs-near-me search.
These records are grouped by a random ID that lives in your browser tab’s session storage and is deleted when you close the tab. They do not include your IP address, a cookie, your location, or anything that identifies you, and we do not combine them with account data. Club organisers who claim their club see totals for their own club page only, never individual visits.
Our hosting providers (Netlify for the website, Supabase for the database) keep standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and reliability. Those logs are held under their own retention rules and we do not use them to profile visitors.
2.2 Accounts and runner profiles
Creating an account is optional. It lets you claim a club, post updates, save clubs, host or join open runs, and build a runner profile. When you sign up we collect:
- Your email address and a password. The password is stored only as a salted hash by our authentication provider; we cannot see it.
- The name you enter and the time you accepted our Terms of Service.
- Anything you add to your runner profile: display name, photo, bio, city, pace and distance preferences, terrain preference, and links to Strava or Instagram. Profiles are public pages.
- Activity you choose to record on the Site: clubs you save, runners you follow, runs you check in to, open runs you host or join, and reactions to other runners’ activity.
2.3 Club submissions and claims
- Submitting a club: club name, area, description, schedule, meeting points and addresses, membership details, Instagram, WhatsApp and website links, and any photos you upload. If you are signed in, the submission is linked to your account.
- Claiming a club: your account email and the message you write explaining your connection to the club.
- Managing a club: edits, schedules, photos, and updates you post as a club owner. These are published on the club’s page.
2.4 Messages, feedback and reports
The contact form collects your name, email, subject, and message. The feedback and report tools on club pages collect the message you write and, if you choose to give them, your name and email. RSVP counts on club pages are anonymous tallies.
2.5 The weekly runs email
If you sign up for the weekly email, we store your email address, the part of LA you picked (if any), the page you signed up on, and when you signed up and unsubscribed. We use it only to send that email. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link; after you unsubscribe we keep the address marked as unsubscribed so we never email it again, and we delete it on request.
2.6 Your location (runs near me)
If you tap “Use my location” on the runs-near-me page, your browser asks your permission and then gives the page your approximate position. It is used inside your browser to sort runs by distance. It is never sent to us or anyone else, and it is not stored.
2.7 Security logs
Failed sign-in attempts to the admin area are logged by IP address so we can block repeated attempts. These entries are kept for a short period and are not linked to visitor accounts.
3. How we use information
- To publish and maintain the directory of running clubs.
- To review submissions and claims, and to verify that a person managing a listing is connected to that club.
- To run account features you use, such as saved clubs, follows, updates, and open runs.
- To answer your messages and act on feedback and reports.
- To send account emails such as confirmation and password reset.
- To send the weekly runs email, only to people who signed up for it.
- To keep the Site secure, prevent abuse, and understand which pages are used most.
- To comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Service.
4. Cookies and local storage
We do not set analytics, advertising, or social-media cookies. The Site uses your browser’s local storage to keep you signed in (removed when you sign out) and to remember things on your own device: the clubs you save, that you already RSVPed or answered “is this info still accurate?” for a club, and that you signed up for the weekly email, so we do not ask twice. Session storage holds the random visit ID described in section 2.1. You can clear both at any time in your browser settings.
Maps on the Site are drawn by Google Maps. When a map loads, Google may set its own cookies and receive your IP address and browser details under Google’s Privacy Policy. We do not send Google anything about you beyond what your browser sends to load the map.
5. Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share data only with the providers that run the Site, and only as needed to do so:
- Supabase Inc. (United States): database, user authentication, file storage for club photos and profile images, and account emails.
- Netlify Inc. (United States): website hosting and content delivery.
- Resend Inc. (United States): delivery of the weekly runs email and site notifications.
- Google LLC: the Google Maps service described above.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the safety of a person, or to enforce our terms. If the Site is ever transferred to a new owner, your information would move with it under this policy.
6. What is public
Club listings, club updates, open runs, and runner profiles are public by design and can be seen by anyone, including search engines. Contact messages, claim requests, feedback, reports, and pending submissions are private and visible only to us and, for your own submissions and claims, to you.
7. How long we keep information
- Accounts and profiles: until you delete your account or ask us to delete it.
- Club listings and submissions: for as long as the club is listed, and as an archive record afterwards unless you ask us to erase it.
- Contact messages, feedback and reports: up to 24 months after we resolve them.
- Page counts: kept as aggregate statistics. They contain no personal information.
- Security logs: a short period sufficient to block abuse.
8. Security
All traffic to the Site is encrypted with HTTPS. Data at rest is encrypted by our providers. Database access is restricted with row-level permissions so that signed-in users can only read and change their own private records. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password. If you find a security issue, tell us through the contact form and we will act on it quickly.
9. Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy.
- Ask us to correct anything that is inaccurate.
- Ask us to delete your account, your profile, or content you posted.
- Edit your runner profile and club listings yourself from your dashboard at any time.
To make a request, use the contact form and choose “Privacy / Data Request” as the subject. We will confirm it is really you, usually by replying to the email on your account, and respond within 45 days.
10. California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act gives you specific rights. Here is how they apply to this Site:
- Right to know: the categories of personal information we collect are listed in Section 2 (identifiers such as name and email, account credentials, profile content you choose to share, and the messages you send us). We collect them directly from you, use them for the purposes in Section 3, and disclose them only to the service providers in Section 5.
- Right to delete and right to correct: see Section 9.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing: we do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. We honor Global Privacy Control signals as a matter of course.
- Sensitive personal information: we do not collect it. Do not include health details in profile fields or messages.
- Non-discrimination: we will never treat you differently for exercising these rights.
- Authorized agents: an agent may submit a request for you if they provide your signed permission and we can verify your identity.
We have not sold or shared personal information in the preceding 12 months. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 for sale.
11. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account or sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. International visitors
The Site is operated from the United States and our providers store data there. If you use the Site from outside the US, you understand that your information is processed in the US, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
13. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your personal information, we will tell account holders by email before it takes effect.
