Running in Hermosa Beach
The Strand runs right through Hermosa Beach, connecting south to Redondo Beach and north to Manhattan Beach and beyond — a flat, paved, oceanfront path that is the backbone of South Bay running. The Hermosa Beach Greenbelt is a 1-mile linear park running through the center of town along a former rail corridor, providing a quieter alternative to the Strand with a soft wood-chip surface and shade trees. Valley Park, alongside the Greenbelt, is a favorite staging spot for weekly group runs. Pier Avenue and the surrounding streets are flat, well-lit, and walkable, making the pier area a natural meeting point. The Hermosa Beach running community is notably social, with clubs organizing weekly runs followed by gatherings at the pier-area bars and restaurants. The annual Hermosa Beach Pier-to-Pier race is a local institution.
